All the pieces we carry are original Beauty of the Beasts designs. We develop our design for each piece from a series of sketches until we know we've captured exactly the right look and feel for that particular piece. Then we handcarve a wax model of that design, from which our caster starts the intricate process of lost-wax casting. Our jewelry is cast in small runs of approximately ten pieces at a time. Many of our pieces are smooth, and casting smooth pieces properly requires a great deal of knowledge and skill (which may explain why most of the smooth pieces you see are flat stampings, not castings). We are fortunate to be working with a few very talented casters who make an extremely demanding process look (almost) easy. After casting, each piece is tumbled, has findings soldered to it, if applicable, and is then polished in several stages by hand with increasingly finer polishing compounds. The result is a beautiful piece you will be proud to own. Your satisfaction is absolutely, completely guaranteed! Each of the pendants comes with a black leather necklace with sterling silver coil findings and a sterling silver-plated torpedo clasp (with the exception of the vermeil Border Paw pendant). We've recently added some vermeil pieces to our line of jewelry. (Vermeil is extremely heavy goldplate over sterling silver.) We chose 22K gold to plate with--it's a really beautiful color of gold; slightly less orangey than 24K, but much richer than 14K and 18K, which are the most commonly seen.
